Orkut Hoaxes

This took me some time to compile. Over the past couple of months i have been flooded by mails which claim to do a lot of things including infecting your computer with a virus, closing the account and what not. Here are some that have come to me. If you see something coming your way, send it across to me. I would put it here. Please ignore the language and the spellings. These are directly copied from the hoax mails. I am not giving any gyaan but i think one should be smart enough to figure out a hoax.

These messages are hoax message and try to understand the message content. There are some people who want to create this kind of hoax message which will reduce the performance of any system like Orkut. So please beware of these hoax messages and don’t forward them to your friends. If you forward the message it will just affect the performance of the systems wherein you are using the messaging system. Just try to avoid those messages and help Orkut to serve you better.
Hoax 1: Orkut deleting accounts

Dear user because of sudden rush of people signing upto orkut is come to an attention that we are vastly running our of resources so with in a week any one who does not receive this scrap will be deleted of our server.
We know that you are still using this account We want to find out which users are actually using their orkut accounts so if you are using your then please send this scrap to every orkut user that you can if u do not pass this scrap to anyone then we will delete your account.

Hoax 2: virus by scraps
someone by your name scraps u,delete it immediatly within 10seconds. Its a virus. Tell everyone on your list because if somebody on your list feeds the scrap then his comp will also be affected. It is a hard drive killer and a very horrible virus. Please pass this on to everyone on your list. We need to find out who using these accounts.
The bottom line: For a virus to infect your computer you need to download a file from this person’s email.
Hoax 3: orkut running out of resources

Hoax 4: friend virus
if somebody by name dvorak@yahoo.com adds you. dont accept it. Its a virus. Tell everyone on ur bulletin because if somebody on ur list adds them, u get the virus too. Tell everyone on your list not to open anything from angell11, tewwtuler, and sassybitch. It is a hard drive killer and a very horrible virus.pass this letter to everyone on your buddy list. this is creepy its called mind reader. send this to every1 on ur list and then press F8 and ur crushes name will appear on ur screen.
The bottom line: How many of you actually tried it? Does not work! I can’t recollect how many girls did this on their profiles and ended up looking foolish!
Hoax 6: Orkut charging and remaining 57 usernames
“HEY ITS DIANNA, FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ORKUT, EVERYBODY SORRY FOR THE INTERRUPTION BUT ORKUT IS CLOSING THE SYSTEM DOWN BECAUSE TOO MANY BOTTERS ARE TAKING UP ALL THE NAMES, WE ONLY HAVE 57 NAMES LEFT, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT, DONT SEND THIS MESSAGE, IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT ,SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST. THIS IS NOT A JOKE, YOU’LL BE SORRY IF YOU DONT SEND IT. THANKS DIRECTOR OF ORKUT, TIM BUISKI. WHOEVER DOESNT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND IT WILL COST YOU $ 10.00 A MONTH TO USE IT”

Hoax 7: LOSE U R GIRLFRIEND AND MAKE BILLIONS !!!!
The Story….
A guy lost his girlfriend in a train accident….but the gal’s name nowhere appeared in the dead list. This guy grew up n became IT technical architect in his late 20?s, achievement in itself!!. He hired developers from the whole globe and plan to make a software where he could search for his gf through the web..Things went as planned… n he found her, after losing millions of dollars and 3 long years!!
It was time to shut down the search operation, when the CEO of Google had a word with this guy n took over this application,This Software made a whopping 1 billion dollars profit in its first year, which we today know as ORKUT .
The guy’s name is ORKUT BUYUKKOTEN . Yes its named after him only. Today he is paid a hefty sum by Google for the things we do like scrapping. He is expected to b the richest person by 2009. ORKUT BUYUKKOTEN today has 13 assistants to monitor his scrapbook & 8 to monitor his friends-list. He gets around 20,000 friend-requests a day & about 85,000 scraps!!!

* He gets $12 from Google when every person registers to this website.
* He also gets $10 when you add somebody as a friend.
* He gets $8 when your friend’s friend adds you as a friend & gets $6 if anybody adds you as friend in the resulting chain.
* He gets $5 when you scrap somebody & $4 when somebody scraps you.
* He also gets $200 for each photograph you upload on Orkut.
* He gets $2.5 when you add your friend in the crush-list or in the hot-list.

Hoax 8: Anupam Biswas and the 1 paisa trick
IIT Bombay student Anupam Biswas 5th Year Mechanical Engg is suffering from Colukabki (caused due to excessive nabad and depression) a disease very rarely found (3 in a billion). His condition is very pathetic and the treatment is very expensive, obviously his parents are not able to afford his reatment. Orkut has agreed to pay 1 paisa after each time this message is forward. So please pass to all ur friends.
The bottom line: Emails cannot be tracked this way and and 1 paisa cannot be payed to anyone.

Dawood, Tiger Memon in ISI custody
n a stunning development, Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is learnt to have taken don Dawood Ibrahim into custody, along with his trusted lieutenant Chhota Shakeel and the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts Tiger Memon.
Intelligence sources said the trio was rounded up last Thursday from their hideout near the Pak-Afghan border and taken to a safe-house on the outskirts of Quetta. The sources added that the three outlaws are likely to be moved out of Quetta soon.
With the US mounting pressure on Islamabad to hand over Dawood and his accomplices who are close to Al-Qaida, the ISI is said to have acted to pre-empt possible proactive steps by Washington. Only last week, the US said that Dawood's smuggling routes converge with that used by Qaida to move arms.
As Washington was building up to some action against Dawood, the ISI is said to have cracked down on him in order to save further embarrassment to the beleaguered Pervez Musharraf regime should Dawood get caught by American forces.
The sources said it would have been tactically unwise for ISI to pick up just Dawood and not his trusted henchmen, Shakeel and Memon.
A senior intelligence officer added: "We will not be surprised if the ISI even eliminates them and confiscates their vast wealth. In any case, Dawood and the others have ceased to be of much use to the Pakistani establishment."
Dawood's brother Anees is already on the run. The first indications of the detention of Dawood and his cronies came when people working for them in Mumbai, Dubai and other places found their phones being answered by strange voices.
The men at the other end of the phones asked the callers to leave their names with the promise to pass on the message to the bhais . This has apparently never happened.
